2010 at The Bridge Academy and Community Center

Dear Friend, I am filled with JOY as I think back over the past few months! In June, it was a year since I started at the BACC. It is exciting to think about all God has done! Please join me as I fill you in on how our summer went, and how our fall and winter are going.

SUMMER SYNOPSIS   Our summer was jam packed with activities and programs for our youth. Thankfully, I had a part time worker and some college students that volunteered much of their time! We had the building open every day for free lunch. We also offered a variety of programs throughout the entire summer, from different camps, to music lessons, ballet, drama, art classes run by Art Partners, computer lessons, nutrition classes, drop in times, special outings, etc. We also had Career Days and Cafe Nights, as well as a week long camp at Lake Champion, New York with our high school kids. We had a great time this summer, and everyone truly enjoyed being able to be there every day. We ended the summer as we do each summer, with a tremendous Book Bag Drive. We gave out over 560 filled book bags to community members! Thanks to all of you that donated supplies or your time to help that day.

OUR FALL SO FAR   We have been going strong this fall! We started with a Fall Festival and Work Day- with much help from the United Way Days of Caring group from Vanguard! A big thanks to them! We also just hosted an organization fair, run by the Coatesville Youth Initiative (CYI), a few weeks back. You will hear more about the CYI in the future as we move forward in working with the youth of Coatesville to see them do great things for themselves and their city! Our programs are listed below, and we are excited to be able to offer them. Our kids get to engage in small group lessons/ skill building activities in the afternoon. They also get to experience larger group settings in our evening programs. Each program desires to give our kids one on one attention. We need more help in each of our evening programs! We are getting ready to celebrate Christmas with a party in each program during the week of December 14th. We will have food, a Christmas story lesson, games, etc. We will also give each child a gift those nights! Thank you to those of you that have already helped buy some gifts for our kids. GROWTH! Recently, I needed to make up a ‘complete’ list of youth that come through our building each week so that we can get them sponsored for Christmas presents. I must say I haven’t put all of our individual progam lists and classes together in awhile. I found that we have over 130 REGULAR weekly attendees!! This was more than I was expecting. I did not include some of the ‘floaters’ that come and go. We also have a few women that are faithful in our luncheon/Bible study group. I am so blessed to see this growth, and also feel a connection to each of those that are on the list as well. Please pray that we grow in our staff and leadership, to coincide with this growth in youth.

FALL/ WINTER PROGRAMS   Mondays Cooking class for 3rd-5th grade students. 3:30-5pm. Middle School group- 6:30-8pm.   Tuesdays Cooking class for Middle and High School students. 3:30-5pm. Young Life Campaigners (Bible study). 2:30-4pm. PreK-2nd grade Homework Club- 6:30-8pm.   Wednesdays Life Skills for Middle and High School girls. 3:30-5pm. Wood Chips for Middle School boys. 3:30-5pm. 3rd-6th Grade Homework Club/ Drop In Night. 6:30-8pm.   Thursdays Kid’s Club at the Camp at Old Mill. 4:30-5:30pm. Young Life for High School students- 6:30-9pm.

HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED:   Christmas Presents: We are accepting Christmas presents for our kids (we have our parties NEXT week: the week of December 14th). We need 80 presents! If you are interested, you can buy a present for a child for around $15-$20. We are in need of some presents for our older kids- such as footballs/ basketballs/ body lotion and sprays, etc. Contact me for details: jordan.crans@gmail.com.   Young Life Winter Weekend We are raising money to take our high school kids to Lake Champion, New York in January. It costs $220 per student, but we are charging our kids $75. We need to raise the rest of that money! Last year we took around 25 kids, and we currently have almost 50 signed up for this year. It adds up to be a lot of money! If you are interested in sponsoring a kid to go to camp, please write a check of any amount to Young Life Chester County or County Corrections Gospel Mission (write Coatesville Urban Young Life in the memo). Send it to the BACC at 570 Olive Street Coatesville, Pa 19320.   Volunteer We NEED volunteers for our evening programs on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays! Please consider helping us out.
